Employee Engagement in Nepal: Practical Ways to Listen and Act

Engagement improves when teams ask useful questions and visibly act on what they hear.

Hajiri Blog

Employee engagement is not a yearly survey or a motivational poster. It is whether people understand the work, have the support to do it, can raise concerns and see that feedback leads somewhere. Small, consistent habits are more credible than a large campaign that disappears after one month.

Ask fewer, better questions

Use short questions connected to real work: Is your workload manageable? Do you know what is expected this week? What is making work harder than it should be? Keep responses appropriately private and be clear about who will see them.

Close the feedback loop

If a team shares feedback, tell them what you heard, what will change and what cannot change right now. Silence after a survey teaches people that responding is pointless. A small operational improvement, explained clearly, often builds more trust than a broad promise.

Recognise useful work specifically

Recognition is strongest when it names the contribution and its impact. “Thank you for helping the team resolve the customer issue before handover” is more meaningful than a generic praise message. Keep recognition fair and avoid rewarding only the most visible roles.

Give managers a simple rhythm

Managers set much of the day-to-day experience. Short one-to-ones, clear priorities, timely feedback and visible decisions make a bigger difference than a complex programme. Hajiri’s performance and feedback workflow helps keep those conversations from disappearing into private notes.

Start with one team, listen carefully, make one improvement and explain it. That is a practical way to build engagement without pretending there is a universal formula.
