Employee self-service is not about asking people to do HR’s work. It is about giving employees a clear, secure way to see their own information and complete straightforward actions without waiting for an email reply.
Start with the actions people repeat
Employees commonly need to view their attendance, request leave, update permitted contact details, find a policy or check the status of a request. Give each action a clear place, a simple explanation and an escalation route when something is not right.
Show status, not just forms
A request is less frustrating when the employee can see whether it is pending, approved, declined or needs more information. Managers should be able to act from the same workflow, with enough context to make a fair decision.
Protect personal data
Employees should see their own records, not other people’s. HR should define which fields people can edit directly and which require an authorised change. Hajiri’s employee record tools help create this balance between access and control.
The test is simple: does self-service save an employee time and give HR a cleaner record? If it does not, simplify the workflow before adding more options.
